Linked Ski Area of Damuels-Mellau-Faschina
The ski area of Damuels and Mellau at the heart of Bregenzerwald has been connected since the 2009/2010 winter season. Both snow-sure ski regions form the biggest skiable terrain in Bregenzerwald. In the 2007/2008 winter season the new 6-person chair lifts - Elsenkopf and Hohe Wacht – were added in Damuels, the first step towards the linked ski area of Damuels - Mellau. The Gipfelbahn - a 8-person mountain gondola was built in 2009. The total investment sum for all three mountain lifts and the respective ski runs amounts to 23 million Euros, financed by the Damuels Mountain Lifts (60 %) and the Mellau Lift Company (40 %). The final stage of this huge project was the inter-connected ski area of Damuels and Mellau by installing the Ragaz 6-seater chair lift for further 6 million Euros invested by the Damuels Mountain Lifts in 2010.
Since then the ski region has seen countless other improvements: in 2013 Bregenzerwald's very first 8-seater chair lift was inaugurated in Mellau (Rossstellenbahn). One year later, Damuels replaced the Sunneggbahn by a highly comfortably 6-seater chair lift and a ski tunnel on the Sunnegg ski slope with an overall gradient of 73 %.
Also in 2015 a new milestone in the region's skiing history will be opened: the new Mellaubahn was added – a state-of-the-art 10-person mountain gondola going into operation at the start of the 2015/16 winter season.
