Getting Here & Mobility

Location & Mobility

The two lovely villages of Damuels and Fontanella-Faschina are located right at the center of Vorarlberg, Austria's westernmost province. They are easily accessible via Bregenzerwald or Großes Walsertal throughout the seasons. In summer Damuels can be also reached on the Furkajoch pass road (from Rheintal valley).

Do you need some snow chains?
Please note, that sometimes snow chains are required for getting here in winter! In Austria winter tires are an absolute must (in case of wintry road conditions) between 01 November and 15. April.

Toll sticker for the highway
If you travel on Austrian motorways or highways you need a Vignette toll sticker for your car/motorbike. The toll sticker is available either for 10 days, 2 months or a whole year. Please purchase the Vignette already before entering the Austrian territory at petrol stations or kiosks in the border area.

Local Public Transport

No matter if you arrive with your own car or with public transport lines, we will assist you at any time! The network and the connections of public transport in Vorarlberg are developed very well.

In Damuels Faschina you can choose from varied opportunities. The Verkehrsverbund Vorarlberg transport system has direct bus lines from Thueringen (through Grosses Walsertal) to Damuels (line 77) and direct connections from Au (Bregenzerwald) to Damuels (line 43). Detailed timetables are available here.

Damuels Local Bus
During the winter months Damuels has a free local shuttle bus taking our guests straight to the ski slopes, mountain lifts, cross-country skiing tracks and winter walking trails.

Damuels - Faschina - Fontanella - Sonntag Night Express
In winter, night owls enjoy a ride the Night Express shuttle bus running between Damuels, Faschina, Fontanella and Sonntag: the easiest and less expensive way to indulge in the region's nightlife. For the night-time bus lines the regular bus ticket rates apply (Vorarlberger Verkehrsverbund).

Travelling by Car

To get to Damuels Faschina you'll have more than one possibility by car.

From Germany via Stuttgart (or Munich) - Ulm - Lindau - Bregenz - Bregenzerwald - Au - Damuels.
From Switzerland via Sargans or St. Gallen to Feldkirch - Thüringen - Großes Walsertal - Damuels.
From Salzburg / Austria via Innsbruck - Arlberg - Bludenz - Ludesch - Großes Walsertal - Damuels.

Important note: the Furkajoch pass road is closed during winter!
The quite narrow, single-lane mountain roads are a challenge to drivers also in the summer months. Therefore the recommended travel routes lead via Bregenzerwald or Grosses Walsertal Biosphere Park.
